NIKI CARRERA
Born the daughter of an Italian-american mother and an italian father, Niki was born in and raised in Milan (Italy).
Since she was a child she had a flair for music. She probably started singing and dancing even before talking.
Her father was an actor and singer too, and she grew up listening to Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin and George Gerschwin, trying to sing along with those records and emulate his father’s talent.
She really grew up into jazz and soul music till she also fell in love with rock music at the age of 16.
Her astrological sign is Aries. She knows what she wants and how to get it.
She likes being part of the scene and showing her own ideas about everything.
She likes travelling a lot and she gets inspirations from everything she sees or people she meets.
Her bold spirit keeps her away from steady situations. She’s always looking for something new, innovative and she likes to experiment any kind of music.
Niki started her singing career at 17, recording dance music with talented dee jays and musicians.
She started attending singing and piano classes and she graduated at Accademia di Musica Moderna.
Afterwards she took a “Speech Level Singing” specialization course with Seth Riggs and Jazz Singing classes at CPM (Centro Professione Musica).
At 20, Niki was offered her first 5 year-long record deal by a dance music label, but she wanted more and she wasn’t ready to get stuck in a steady situation for too long.
Then she decided to move to London, open to new life experiences.
She spent two years there, springing from a job to another and while nightclubbing she met several interesting musicians, who gave her the opportunity to perform live for DJ sets and as a vocalist in recording sessions.
After this amazing experience, she decided to get back home and see things with different eyes.
Niki never stopped travelling, being a session vocalist for commercials and dance music all over Europe, but she was asked to be the lead singer in a rock band (Senzalibi) for few years and it was a new challenge to her.
Niki and her new band played live almost everywhere in Italy, which was an amazing and remarkable experience.
She also took part as a backing vocalist to outstanding shows as Tim Tour all over Italy, The Radio Italia’s 10th Anniversary Concert at Brianteo Stadium in Monza and many more.
These experiences and steps will help later to shape her lyrical/songwriting and performing skills, because she really wanted to create her own songs and she realized that rock music wasn’t the right choice when she met, eight years ago, two talented musicians, Adam Grey and Jurij G.Ricotti , who truly upset her musical world.
They brought into question her repertoire and encouraged her to become a composer on her own.
Then she jumped into a different world, made of Lounge/Chill out vibes and Jazzy smooth melodies, who reminded her of her first love for jazz music, since she was a child.
