RR041 THE JAMES HOPE PROJECT
We have a new Release coming soon
THE JAMES HOPE PROJECT - FADE ep
The James Hope Project consists of the english poet and spoken word artist James Hope and his musical partner in crime Per Kincaid. Here is the story behind the project in James's own words: I was born and raised in Bristol, England. Raised on jazz, funk, ska, reggae, punk. Real music with real energy. My father died when I was 13, I remember the pleasure of listening to music with him, music still takes me to that special place. I have been through addictions and relationships, they all go, it's a part of life. The only thing that remains true to me is music. No matter what happens noone can take my music away from me. Although I now live in Copenhagen, the Bristol music scene remains influential in my life because it was part of my childhood. I have connections with Massive Attack and Portishead, also with many other Bristol musicians that aren't afraid to make a difference, Bristol creates trends and reaches the world, so do many artists that aren't afraid to make a change, create a difference, challenge the future. Art is communication, an ability but most importantly a gift to be transmitted and received. Music is a therapy, an essential part of lifes journey. I love music and am grateful to of worked with all the musicians that I have worked with. Now working with Per excites me and challenges me. I create alot of insane ideas Per is able to de-code and make sense of. London boy Per (Kincaid) studied classical music and jazz at RCM in Bristol and Rytme Kons in Denmark. A truly all-round bass player, producer, arranger. Per has worked with the likes of the Brand New Heavies (Per's brother Jan is the drummer with the 'Heavies'). On top of his writing commitments Per also plays bass and writes for top Danish salsa band Salsa Loca. What makes our project exciting is that Per and I have similar but at times very different musical influences, because of these differences they seem to take each other further. I'm proud to say that music is my high, music is why I am alive.

GHETTO MULLET REVIEW 2
Music-News.com
When I heard that Ghetto Mullet had released a new EP I couldn't wait to give it a listen, their last EP 'Sunday Morning Hangover' intrigued me. There was a really mellow, chilled feel to the last EP and anyone who likes Hip Hop-style beats all mixed up in a glitch-style salad sitting nicely alongside your Sunday morning cup of tea would have been comfortable with this.
So what of 'Unearthly Hours'? First of all, I like the title, Ghetto Mullet give us a feel of what making music means to them; late nights, red eyes, blank faces staring at a computer screen at 1am, and that's probably when they begin a session!!! This EP for me is in 2 parts, yet with those two parts, I believe, purposely mixed up. There are 2 up-tempo tracks and 2 down-tempo tracks, and they have been placed alternately as if Ghetto Mullet are making you aware of either a transition in their sound or the fact that their bows are strung in many ways. There's a moody feel to the EP, lots of punchy hard beats, some synthy sticky baselines , there are swirls and sounds, stabs and hits that jostle with squeaks and glitches, there's some fresh cutting in there too, showing their Hip Hop roots and an unexpected dash of funkiness at times! All this comes together to make a sound that will make you bob your head and look on the internet for more of their stuff!
Tachycardia, track 1 is a track from the heart! Literally, you can hear defibrillators in there, heart beats, heart monitor sounds, a women saying 'breathe' and a doctor (I imagine) saying 'shocking'. The beats are heavy and the base is hard and there are some thick chiming key sounds, you may read this and ask why? The answer to that would be 'why not?' Track 2, Depth Charge is up-tempo with constant drum hits flying at you with some squeaky submarine obviously at war with a spaceman (or at least that's what the video for this track suggests!). There are backwards snares and interference sounds that clue this in place. Redemption or Consumption returns to a slower grove and builds up and cools down around some neat scratching.
There's a definite message in this track that penetrates your subconscious over the plodding rhythm. The final track, Reboot, is a lift in tempo and has some moments of dark base next to some broken beats and a few well timed funky keys that glitch right out into oblivion! Be warned, there is a crazed android locked into the musical fibres of this track that wants nothing more than to reboot EVERYTHING!
To conclude, Ghetto Mullet are a must if you like Hip Hop Electronic instrumental sounds. I think we can only expect good things from them, one thing's for sure; their first EP was no fluke or stroke of luck, the sound is consistent and also consistently different and progressive to hold your interest.

GHETTO MULLET REVIEW
The Following is a review from DieShellSuit.co.uk written by Danny Gaymer
Ghetto Mullet are an Electronica outfit formed from the discontentment of run-of-the-mill sounds that worm their way into our radios from the ‘tinned music’ culture of today. Their influences range from early Hip Hop to Hip Hop from the mid-nineties all mashed and mixed together with their own take on the modern wave of glitch, broken beat recycled Hip Hop-style sounds.
Sunday Morning Hangover is Ghetto Mullet’s first project as they embark on a journey to develop their own totally original sound and formulate a head-turning and head-banging style. This EP invites you to lend your ears to Hip Hop-influenced tunes that have been convoluted and distorted just enough to divert you from gangsters and B-boys to somewhere much more obscure, and with any luck more pleasant! It’s quite possible that in the near future Doctors will be prescribing Ghetto Mullet music as alternative remedies for all manner of non-terminal illnesses! With that in mind, you are invited to blast this EP in your chosen audio containment chamber as if it were under-the-counter pharmaceuticals!
'Unearthly Hours' is the second EP from the fantastically monikered Ghetto Mullet. This second release comes hot on the heels of their flagship EP 'Sunday Morning Hangover', a calming respite for those suffering from a brutal morning after. The follow up continues the theme of chilled instrumental Hip Hop drenched in android glitches, bleeps, Dubby space echo, flange, wah and a whole arsenal of other effects. However Ghetto Mullet's sound has now acquired some sharp synth fangs as their sound now exhibits a harder and less soothing edge.
"Tachycardia" sets the tone with the ambience of a Grime set in a run down emergency ward, off beat breaks dripping with reverb and solemn keys ring out over the steady beat. "Depth Charge" is a livelier club influenced piece, albeit the kind of club that's run out of a run down asbestos shed at the back of some forgotten industrial estate in Slough. The vibe is like taking some scrapings of grime off Dizze Rascal's bathroom floor and dripping through a PA stack, while the production once again harks back to meticulous detail of classic NWA, rich in effects and post production tweaks.
"Redemption or Consumption" is marked by a low and evil bass line backing aggressive turntable scratching, while blending watery Dub style effects (in the vein of Roots Manuva's "Witness the Fitness") with Ghetto Mullet's recurring obsession for sampling agitated spoken word tracks. "Reboot" is filled with a dark and foreboding energy, a rain storm of liquid mercury on dark city streets filled with static fog.
Once again fans of DJ Shadow and Mr.Scruff will not be disappointed with what Ghetto Mullet have to offer, yet those who are looking for dark beats to really get into will be overjoyed with the sinister undertones that seep out of the recordings. Like the EP preceding it 'Unearthly Hours' is aptly named: whereas 'Sunday Morning Hangover' was the respite for the morning after, this fresh release is the dark and brooding elixir for some insomnia plagued vigil a few nights later.

SUPERLOGIC New Artist Joining us
We have a new artist joining us
SUPERLOGIC
Superlogic is 28 year old David Mair, based in Edinburgh. Originally from Ayrshire he jumped back and forth over the Irish Sea for more than a wee while, living in Dublin, Fort William, The Isle of Skye and Cork before finally settling in Edinburgh, where he has been for the last four years. A skilled bass guitarist, Davie is a well known character in the Scottish music scene, having played in gigging bands and turning the pub he owns in Leith into a top quality live music venue - before getting shut down by the Environment Health department. God love ‘em.
His personal music taste has however always leaned toward the electronic side of things, and in 2008 he decided to take some time out to learn how to use software program Ableton Live.
‘It was like a whole new world of possibilities opened up to me. I basically just spent the next few months with my head buried in my laptop!’
His drive to explore the beats and bleeps side of life has so far resulted in the creation of ten gloriously absorbing and provocative tracks - from driving multi faceted techno to ambient downtempo electronica. Each one offers a different take on his musical influences and wide spectrum of musical tastes, taking in everything from Massive Attack to Aphex Twin, via Primal Scream and Forward Play.
‘I’m really happy to finally be creating electronic music as that is really where my heart is and just want to keep progressing with it. Can’t get a gig in my own pub though…..’
He will be releasing "The Man With 3 Ears" on This is Red Robot Vol 4 with Hopefully more releases to follow.
